Like i said, The list published by the Globes on top 10 israeli twitter users is not really useful. Actually what i learned from nearly 1.5 year of using Twitter intensively is that any list is pretty useless. The network is so rich and growing so fast that each user will have its own view of what is an important user to track and therefore there is no 1 definitive TOP 10 list, but a dynamic personal TOP 10 list.
I would like to share my TOP 10 list users (Actually a little more) of Twitter accounts in Israel (Tw-Israel? ). Meaning those i particulary pay attention to or engage with. If you have a blog you can try to do the same exercise. I am not hoping to convince you by its relevancy, but just to give you a sense of who is important to me. They don t come in a particular order
- Yaron Galai : Founder of Quigo and OutBrain. Lot of great insights
- Yaron Samid: cofounder of Pando. Highly Networked
- Daniel Cohen: My colleague at Gemini. Don t expect only VC insights. a real personal Twitter
- Orli Yakuel: no need to explain. A must track
- Guy Zohar: Not always easy to decode, but probably the only TV guy in israel that got it on Twitter for some time
- Tech Aviv: track news and events on one of the best (probably the best) internet event in israel
- Carmel Ventures: interesting reading shared by our VC friends at Carmel Ventures (hold mostly by Gilad de Vries)
- Michael Eisenberg: track the insights and shared reading from one of the best VCs in the country
- Netanel Jacobsson: one of my best friend. Ex colleague at ICQ, ex Biz Dev at Facebook. Based in the US. Mostly personal
- Raanan Bar Cohen: a great guy working at Auttomatic (Wordpress) in charge of biz dev
- Ori Lahav: head of Dev and co founder of Outbrain. A nice personnal twitter account
- Ran Tavori: A talented Google guy. Lots of great tech insights. who created also a nice Twitter stats engine
- Boxee: The only account hold by a company in my list, but probably one of the best practice on how to use smartly Twitter when you are a startup
- Arik Fraimovich: co founder of Topify.
- Arik Czerniak: co founder of MetaCafe and accelerate.co.il
- Jay Meydad: VP product at Snap. Based in the US. lots of great insights and conversations
- Yaron Herman: one of the best jazz pianist in the world
You will notice that those don t have particularly a high number of followers. Simply because it does not matter to me. What matters is how important and interesting they are to me. I could have added many more (in particular Twitter account of news sites, the israeli consulate, qassamcount - not so actual anymore...) but i sticked with those i particularly enjoy
There are many people i d love to see on Twitter too: singers (Matti Caspi, Chalom Khanokh..), movie directors and actors (ari folman..), TV guys, News channels, politicians (the real livni, not a fake), Tel aviv city (news, updates,...), real time traffic (ayalon...)...Hope they come one day
Of course if you are using Topify track @topify and also @ttronic (Twittertronic) the account of the Twitter soundtrack i co created
My recommendation if you are starting
- if you start twitter, don t rush to follow anyone. This won t work and you ll get tired by the noise.
- Start with 20 people you really really know either personnally or because they are of interest to you.
- Then follow the conversation and browser usernames as they are mentionned. You ll expand smartly your list.
- Also add your Twitter account to any digital signature you have (email, facebook...) people will start to follow you.
- See who they are and follow back if you think it makes sense to you
- If you want to browse a little more use Twitter grader, that rates user per country (here for israel)
