10 iPhone 2.2 Tweaks and hacks

I recently decided to upgrade my iPhone 2G from 1.1.4 to the latest 2.2. Living in Israel i have no choice but to unlock it (since Apple has no local agreement). I discovered a series of very useful tricks and hacks if you jailbreak your phone. This is not about the official appstore, just to save you time but about what you can do with a jailbroken iPhone in 2.2. I have been through tens of  hacks. Those are the best and should save you time.

  1. Run apps in background: yes you can, Just add "backgrounder" from Cydia. Very simple. Just open the app you want in the background (eg your IM client) press the home button a few seconds and you ll get a confirmation message
  2. Place Five icons on your Desktop bar: Why 4? there is room for 5. Just add "Five icon" from Cydia. then move your app to the desktop bar
  3. Unlock screen with 3 clicks: The unlock slide feature is elegant but sometimes unconvenient. you have a cool add on in Cydia to enable unlocking with 3 continnuous Clicks. Add the App "QuickUnlock"
  4. Launch anything with QuickGold. the best launcher for iPhone. Don t even think. Just install it.
  5. Record Video: with sound with Cycorder. works fast and perfect
  6. Maps in Israel: Google Map Israel is available for you computer but not your iPhone. On 1.1.4 there was a useful "Installer" version of Freemap. Now it is on Cydia. Just add the source "cydia.freemap.co.il" and install Freemap. Works perfect
  7. CallerID and Hebrew for iPhone: CallerID has just been updated, Hebrew for iPhone should be added by HedDev.com tomorrow
  8. Back to Top in 1 click: you scrolled and scrolled, Want back to top quickly? Click once on the hour area on top of your iPhone. Tada...
  9. Backup your apps list: afraid to lose everything in the next upgrade, just add "AptBackup", will save you time for next upgrade by repopulating your apps list
  10. All key Settings in one slide: the guy that created SBsettings is a genuius. In one slide you access key connectivity settings (bluetooth, wifi, SSH) and other useful stuff. Like QuickGold, don t think, just install it.
