No TheMarker.com for me, and for Mac users

Amazing!

I realized since i moved to Mac that i could not read theMarker.com from my computer. The reason? The site is making my browsers crash whether it is Firefox or Safari. I contacted someone i know there to share the issue (which he forwarded internally), at the same time i posted a comment on twitter and realized the problem was shared by others.

Here is the answer i received today from theMarker after verifications: the site is not working on Mac, they know the problem and do not plan to solve it. Yes you read well. They are aware of the problem and it will stay that way.

I am not sure what is the technical problem about (it is not because of Firefox because on my PC it works well). I checked also on my iphone and using safari Themarker.com works perfectly. I also checked with Internet Explorer in CrossOver (which enables to run PC app on Mac) and there it works fine. Could work fine with VMware and Parallel also i assume.

The problem is specific to leopard or to some proprietary Microsoft techno like video player, or ad server or DRM whatever that makes the browser crash.

But i find it amazing that a national newspaper, that by essence has to give universal access, is deliberately putting aside a part of the population that want to read their news. even if it is a minority.

Specially when you know usually mac users are advanced users (for example Pitango Ventures just switched all their computers to mac). Specially when you also know that mac users are becoming more and more important in Israel. Not mentionning those who read the marker from abroad...

I already explained that there are 2 israeli internet in this country. One that is advanced and international and another one that is retarded and local (which often translates in poor usability, ignorance of standards, and bad optimization for different OSes and Browsers)

TheMarker wants to be in the first category not the second.

And for the record: they lost today a reader. I could make the effort to open Crossover and read it in IE, but on the principle i won't bother.
