This is for Israeli readers only. I was invited by Unicell to be a jury member on this Facebook app competition they named LiveFace. I like those initiatives to strengthen the Israeli internet ecosystem and this is why i decided to help, even if i am not sure of the outcome. Facebook starts to become pretty popular in Israel. Facebook has created a fund (FBfund) to spot the best app projects and some VCs like Bay partners even invest in Facebook apps. So there must be something interesting to observe there.
RIght now there are about 20 apps in Facebook which have most of the attention of the users (Slide, Rockyou, Flixster, top friends...). None of them is really making money, for now and this is still a green field. That will change one day. But i just I like the LiveFace experiment. we'll see what happens
You can apply until tomorrow. some details below or check the website
Kardan subsidiary, Unicell Advanced Cellular Solutions Ltd. announced a competition to develop FaceBook applications. The four-week competition is open for registration until December 19.
This competition, the first of its kind in Israel, is entitled "The Next Israeli Killer Application for FaceBook Challenge". Applications can be filed in five categories: mobile, media (video, audio, and images), games, e-commerce, and "free style". The winner in each category will win an iPhone and a commitment from Unicell to market and publish the application.
Unicell has also launched an entrepreneurs track in the competition. In this track, anyone with an idea for a facebook application can register for the chance to win an iPhone. The winning idea will be developed and promoted by Unicell.
All revenue generated from the winning applications will be shared with the developers and entrepreneurs.
All the details can be found at www.liveface.co.il, which is the first Israeli blog dedicated solely to Facebook
Last I've heard, RockYou was doing >$1.5M in the last 12 months. They are ~15 employees so this makes a nice balance, don't you think?
