If you wanna launch a VC blog, here are 10 name suggestions

I am a big believer that all VCs should blog to add transparency and improve communications with the entrepreneurial world. I wrote in the past why VCs should blog. There are also probably good reasons why VCs should not. But at the end i believe that if this is done right this is a big winner. I see everyday the benefits of it and my case is not a stand alone.

So all you need to do is start. Really. Don’ t try to think too much about what you should do. Don’t start to hire an expensive PR agency to explain you what you should write about. Just start.

But before you start you need to find a blog name. You can brand it under your VC name.  But i believe that you have here an opportunity to stand out of the crowd (BeyondVC, VentureBlog, aVC are a few exemples). You can still keep your VC name and add a sub-brand. Let me suggest you a few.

• Veni Vidi VC (i am proud of this one)
• Round Table (a bit borring maybe)
• Entries and Exits
• Term Sheets (serious no, risk)
• Vesting thoughts
• VCtube (vlog on vc)
• Executive extensions
• Venture Carnet (VC)
• Fun-Ding (a bit risky i admit)
• Ad/Ventures (indiana jones style)

You can use those name freely (not sure URLS are free) and if you do be kind to mention the inspiration source. Now you are all set to start

10 tips to optimize your presence at a Conference

I have attended a few conferences lately. And i have learnt some good points i’d like to share

1. Register if possible the day before. You’ll save the lineup
2. Don’t bring your laptop. 1 wifi never works, 2 it will capture your attention during panels 3. you’ll be more light
3. Bring good shoes. If it was up to me i would go in snickers. I just ruined my feet by bringing the wrong shoes. This was the last time
4. Don’t plan meetings too much in advance what to do. Try to improvise and feel where the action/interest is.
5. Choose panels by the moderator not the subject of the panelist. If the moderator is good, the panel is good. If not it is a failure, even if panelists are good and subject if interesting
6. Drink. Water (of course!). A lot. I always dry myself up and need 3 days to recover
7. Business Cards. Bring a lot. Put yours in one pocket. those you collect in another. Soon you’ll avoid the mess i always make.
8. Avoid heavy lunch. even if tempting. Actually if you can, don’t eat at lunch and get a huge breakfast
9. When a panel is about to finish, rush to the bathroom to avoid the unbearable line up. You’ll save time and pain
10. Spot a good meeting point out of the conference center for “special meetings”

Prison Break season 2: tipping point is at episode 12

If like me you are currently watching the season 2 of Prison Break and you think it is not as good as season 1 you are not so wrong.

Just be patient and wait until episode 12 where XJKFJK get killed by LSDHJKF GDHJKF DHJKG

You did not expect me to tell you, no? :)

Seriously the first 11 episodes are just an appetizer and the drama takes a whole new dimension at this moment.

Don't give up. I nearly did. I also preferred season 1. Trust me.

10 details i'll remember on web2.0 expo

There are tones of reviews on the Web2.0 expo. Good ones. Read them. I’ll focus on the less important things that caught my attention

• 40 israelis at least came specially for the event+those living in the US. Kol hakavod
• No Goodies. Bad. Very Bad
• Web2.0 expression makes a lot of people sick. Let’s just talk about the innovative web.
• Netvibes party was the coolest. Digg was ok, specially with a VIP pass
• The hottest startup right now is Twitter. Ratio buzz/investment is the highest in the industry ever. if you don’t believe me read NYT
• No one gets the eBay/StumbleUpon deal (including me)
• Starbucks on 4th street made probably twice the money they usually do since this was some kind of huge meeting room.
• Companies and HR agencies are desperate to find engineers. Even ready to put listing in public bathrooms!
• From a speaker point of view David Hornik is just a killer. From a moderator point of view Mike Arrington is the king
• Most pronounced phrase “Did you see anything exciting? nothing revolutionnary but cool networking”. Actually after thinking about it one thing caught my attention BIG TIME.Gaia Online a new 3d world that one talks about and that has stunning stats (i had dinner with the founder just by me and i did not know it )
• I hate Eric Schmidt dress code (specially his tie). Prefer Battelle style.

Barometre du Buzz Wikio/20minutes.fr

The service is in French but i found it interesting to compare the level of buzz of each candidate to french presidentials. The graphs are dynamically updated

This has been powered by Wikio which tracks the number of times a specific subject or name is mentionned in thousands of trusted sources (I am on the board of that company). They partnered with 20minutes.fr a free french popular newspaper to do it

I really wonder if results will work accordingly. Right now Sarkozy gets more buzz than others…

update: i was right, buzz and results worked, but only for first two guys.

Gmail for Blackberry: secret keyboard shortcuts

If you have Gmail client installed on your blackberry you are probably accessing features the traditionnal way (meaning with keyboard and weel) which can be painful if you use it a lot

After a few casual mistakes i discovered easy keyboard shortcuts that make life much easier providing the same experience as on computer

Unfortunately those shortcuts are not explained no where and are not necessarily the same as per computer or mobile phone

• o – opens a mail
• d– delete mail
• c – compose mail
• y– archive mail
• s– star
• i– checking mail (unlike on computer there is no automatic refresh so this is most useful)

Most people (even very high profile users) around me did not know them. So i guess this should help
