Babel. This is the 3rd movie by Alejandro González Iñárritu, one of the most promising new generation movie director (i would add also Daren Aronosfky and Alejandro Amenabar is the pack).
Amorres Perros and 21 Grams were already stunning and Babel is completing the series.
I will try not to spoil the movie if you have not seen it yet. The story by the way is dead simple and the interest is not here. It takes place in 3 different countries and shows 4 different stories apparently not related. It is about how it is told and shown. Alejandro Inarritu is used to tell simple stories in a complex and powerful way revealing the whole picture at the end.
If you are very careful i guess you will understand the movie much before it finishes. Many details are present from the first images for you to catch and assemble the bricks. In a word the intensity of the feelings and the sadness is impressive thanks to the art of the scenario but also i believe the photography and the choice of the music that matches perfectly the context.
I recommand the soundtrack which is very beautiful. Not all the tracks are worth, but some are really stunning. In particular 3 songs that i add to my permanent playlist
- Tu me acostumbraste by Chavela Vargas
- The joker (mix on earth wind and fire by Fatboy Slim and Shinchi Osawa)
- Bibo No Aozora: The wonderful trio by Ryuichi Sakamoto (in my view the japanese Bernard Hermann)
The presence of Cate Blanchette and Brad Pitt is surprising (other actors are not famous) in this movie but their performance is great (specially Brad)
A great work of art. I bet it will get at least a couple of Golden Globes award and maybe an Oscar.
Below the trailer and an interview on the director (don t watch this one if you did not see the movie)
Il me semble te l'avoir effectivement conseillé dans ta précédente note ciné ;-)
