My friend Valery just put together his first complete album. Now here is the amazing bit. Valery is not a professional musician. He s a top exec at Unilever. I know Valery for years and seen him progressivly improving since the day he started taking guitar lessons.
But he has a passion and a talent. I am not fan of this music style myself but i must recognize that his first works (“Follow the eye” by Baron Zero) are just blowing. At the crossing of Bowie, Red hot chili Peppers and RadioHead. And he did that just by himself. Valery: congrats man, i am impressed!
And VH1 even asked him to use some of his works. The beginning of something?
I invite you to listen to them here or to download them (right click)
IS EVERYTHING IN PLACE: the opening track for the album "Follow the Eye". In short ? A punchy start ...
NO EASY WAY: a mean bassline which takes off like a rocket, sends you spinning like a sattellite to remind you that "without the bitter babe, the sweet ain't so sweet".
POWER (part 1): the soundtrack for a party at the top of the Eiffel tower ... A funk/rock track with bags of groove and bags of attitude: just bag it !
NEW DAY RISING: an uplifting ballad about love and miracles. "She's got eyes like a new day rising, a smile like the sun floating through the sky".
POSITIVE: a rock song about AIDS. Because every 10 seconds someone somewhere in the world dies from it. This track lasts 3:43 ... I let you do the maths.
NEVERAFTER: where it all began. The end of a love affair and le Baron's very first song.
SHE SHINES: accoustic guitars and African drums for a story about magic, the moon and fairies: a tribal summernight's dream.
NEW DAY RISING (slight return): like a distant echo: when the words have dried and the paper has yellowed, only remain the faded colours and the melancholy.
ps: his blog on music, art and marketing is also very interesting too and nicely done too (he s on my short roll)
