Want a good idea for business 2.0? Bookmarklet manager

Today i feel in the generous mood so i am willing to share a (good) idea for those of you who are searching for something to do. I don t have the skills neither the time to do it…and soon i will be busy with more things (teasing…)

Nearly all web2.0 services offer now a bookmarklet to operate their service. A bookmarklet is a kind of browser favorites/short cut that most of the time can generate a javascript operation for the service. For example Delicious Bookmarklet lets you add a page as a favourite, CoComment bookmarklet lets you keep track of your comments in blogs, Bloglines let you add a blog feed to your list. They are most of the time placed in favourite tool bar of your browser and then start to pollute your environment.

Now here is the thing. Since it is starting to be crowded out there, why not create a tool/toolbar to be integrated in your browser with main bookmarklets already pre-installed that will on one side “clean” the browser and on the other give you access to pre-installed bookmarklets so you don t have to look for them. Businesswise you can partner with main services to pre-install them and make some kind of new member generation or affiliation revenue.

I am not anticipating it to be a multi-billion dollar business but if you have some programmation skills and some business sense you can make easily nice dollars out of it. On the user side virality is likely to work specially in early adopters community. Specially if you can manage to build a true bookmarket website and directory.

Blummy is a company that kind of does that, but that is not going all the way, specially on the community side

PS: i have found this website, that is a kind of directory but that does not offer a browser tool to organize them

ps2: to see if this is a good idea i am going to digg it and see how people react. if you like it also you can digg it

ps3: last time i shared an idea it was something that became a few months later CoComment that has now 100k visitors a day…

Hi,

I'm not sure why you think that blummy is not going on the community side? Check out the bookmarklet library on the right. There are tons of bookmarklets there, primarily added by users. What are you missing?

Actually you are right. blummy has community features, but i was thinking about sharing/tagging features as well as proper converstation environment. Your product is good but not mainstream enough for non-early adopters used to simple bookmarks and toolbars
