Forget about Ajax and meet Comet

If you thought you d be smart by saying that Ajax is the ultimate web2.0 language then start swtiching to COMET.

Actually you are already using webservices that you comet but you think they use Ajax. Gmail and Meebo are 2 of them.

I will not get into tech details but basically is AJAX improves user experience by eliminating page refresh, COMET is also improving responsivness and speed of the web application as it is using a protocole that is in permanent communication with servers.

Ajax improves single-user responsiveness. Comet improves application responsiveness for collaborative, multi-user applications and does it without the performance headaches associated with intermittent polling.

This explains why Gmail is much faster and much better than Live.com new mail (ajax based) specially regarding email refresh.
