So, is your Facebook page really yours?
When you create a blog, no one asks you whether you own your posts or not. No one asks you whether you can monetize it or not. You can place adsense or whatever you want. Why should your personal page on a social network like Facebook or any other network be treated differently?
Actually for many users a profile page on Facebook or Myspace is like a blog where they share their life with their friends.
Ads-Click (disclosure: i am on the board of that company) is announcing today MicroSocialads that enable you, if you with to monetize your personal page/space.
Would you use your profile page or personals space to make some money with advertising? (remember this is discrete, targeted, controlled, unobtrusive and opt out)
I like the idea because it explores something new (and risky), although i am curious to see how efficient this can be. If this is then a new generation of advertising is on the way. I look forward also to see how Facebook and others are going to react to this. We know that the terms of service are against us but on the other side all the applications on Facebook will face exactly the same issue and we all know that terms of service are not made of marble.
So is your page really yours? find out by trying here
update: the news made it on TechMeme, the debate got started. most reactions are negative but very little pay attention to how this is going to be implemented (specially on the control from the user side) and only focus on Facebook and forget other platforms will also be compatible.
