Good to be back. Coming back is tough and specially getting up to speed with all the mails and news.

I promised i would not blog during my absence but i lied and i made a little podcast with Loic where we talk about the war in Lebanon and web2.0 (nothing related of course). To watch it click here (in French)

Here is to download the vidéo or the sound file

Btw, A friend of mine told me there is an article in Forbes (hebrew version) with my pictures in it. If someone has it scanned i would appreciate

Interviewed in TF1 on web2.0

Before i left on holidays, Christophe Abric interviewed me for TF1, the largest french tv network. This is part of a larger chapter dedicated to web2.0. Probably not for who knows already what it is about. but good for intro

articlelcitechcrunch

He asked me about my definition on web2.0 (of course..), what about bubble2.0 and my favourite new web services.

You can read it here

HO-LI-DAYS

Off for a few days. Need to charge the batteries.

So as Miles Davis was saying about his music: enjoy the silence and see you soon

PS: during that period i will hold all comments and trackbacks.

After DogSter, CatSter, here is Hamster-Ster

This is of course only a joke and i am sure no one would have the idea to create a social community for Hamster that way. But i just felt like blogging it.

On the serious it shows also how poor creativity can be when it comes to create a new name/brand. Using industry patterns (Something–Ster, something-R, Something-OO,…) is just not enough in my view.

Building a brand name is a serious thing and you should invest energy in that as much as the rest. Of course it has to be appealling to you first. Dogster/Catster is not to me.

In case someone thinks about a vertical for hamster, please save us Hamster-Ster.

Apple to buy YouTube?

This could totally makes sense. Good prediction by Om Malik

I don t see anyone else candidate for it, specially at the price of 1billion USD.

5 web2.0 companies i would have liked to invest in

I asked myself the other day “who will have success in that new web space?”. I identified a few companies but i list here 5 of them.

I put aside all the companies that already had some kind of exit and i place some bet on those i think will have a big exit. All those service have in common that i love to use them and that they bring a new disruptive and relevant way to consume or use the internet.

FeedBurner

FeedBurner is the king for RSS management. Their approach is highly qualitative and business model is very sophisticated.

Pandora

A fantastic music discovery service. Surely improvable but with a great user interface, free, easy and smart. The model is new but i am sure they will catch audience and monetize it in some way.

NetVibes

Why choose your homepage when you can buid it for yourself. This company is already sky rocketting, raised recently 15mUSD and has 5m users after 1 year. If this is not the next BIG thing i want to cut my hand.

Riya

I was part of their beta-tester before they decided to become a picture search engine based on face recognition. I was already a big Fan but i think this service will become big as it introduces a new visual search pattern.

BrightCove

At a moment where everybody ask how on earth YouTube and MetaCafe will make money, BrightCove is providing a very high quality service about implementing a full video service (publishing/editing/distributing/monetising) on your website. It is one of my favourite video company today. by far.

I hope i can find a company of that standard for lgilab.com

JAZZCAST: Tribute to Oscar Peterson

is a brilliant jazz pianist born in Canada. Highly famous for being a total technical master he was also a fine composer. I recorded one his composition called “The land of misty giants” extracted from his original album Canadiana Suite.

To listen press play below or download here

powered by ODEO

is a beautiful tribute to his country, Canada (and not USA like most people think). The land of the misty giant is a ballad closing this Suite. I don t know any version out of Peterson’s himself. I think it could be a great idea to make it vocal too. This tune is very lyrical. Harmonies are typical of Peterson, very sophisticated with a lot of rutpures and mode changes.

Just for the pleasure below a version of Laura (i will record soon) by Oscar Peterson

Israeli Internet and the access to the US market

Israel is the size of a french department (although on the news it sounds bigger than the US), so it is clear: if you are an internet (or high tech) start up, you can’t make it locally and have to export yourself.

All israeli entrepreneurs know that since day1. The US market is the target. A few israeli internet companies have managed to make it there (Shopping.com is one of them) But then comes the question: how do we get there? How can we manage? Specially with so much competition.

Israeli Internet is waking up for sure. And you might ask yourself how to get a chance to make it. So unless you know a great VC or have a fantastic US network here s something that should be of interest for you.

Internet roadshow banner

The California Israel Chamber of Commerce and the Consulate General of Israel Economic Mission in San Francisco are announcing a special “Israel Internet Technology Road Show to the Silicon Valley” scheduled for November 6-10, 2006 and held in conjunction with Web 2.0 Conference in San Francisco.

I just realized each time i have a new contact i introduce him in and Linkedin. At the end of the day the idea is to keep track of someone. Linkedin offers additional network features. I don t want to have to choose and i want to simplify efforts.

So why is not possible either from Plaxo side or Linkedin to merge both service and either add an automatic contact list update or social network so we would have only ONE great service?
